What is chiropractic? The word "Chiropractic" is derived from two Greek words: cheir (xsip), meaning "hand," and praktikos (пpaкTIKOC), meaning "practical" or "to do." In other words Chiropractic means, "Done by hand," and is practiced as a manual healing art, which specializes in the correction of misalignments primarily of the spine, (but also of other joints,) to facilitate the return of the body's mechanical efficiency while also, removing interference with the nervous system caused by the bony misalignments impinging on the brain stem and spinal nerve roots.

What is the definition of perfect health?"All systems working 100% efficiently all of the time," equals PERFECT HEALTH. You'll notice that there is no mention of how you FEEL. If every system is working at 100%, you will definitely feel wonderful, but just feeling fine at a particular moment in time does not mean that you can assume that you're at 100%. Many people felt perfectly fine a week before they dropped dead of a heart attack. Unfortunately, most people's idea of perfect health is if you feel OK, you get up and go to work and eat three meals every day. With precise manual spinal corrections, Chiropractors are able to elevate the efficiency of the body functions of everybody, while also providing pain relief.

What are the benefits of chiropractic treatment? The multiple benefits of Chiropractic treatment fall into two general categories. Mechanical or Musculo-skeletal benefits which comprise around 30% and Physiological benefits which comprise the other 70%. Lower back pain and stiffness, neck and shoulder pain and stiffness, loss of range of motion of head and neck and sciatica are common examples of musculo-skeletal problems, usually arising from the effects of whiplash injuries and multiple falls and jolts from years previously, with their compounding compensatory effects. Physiological malfunctions of the body can begin in early childhood, from even small falls and jolts as infants, which may set the body on the path to a lowering of one's overall functional efficiency and may be responsible for problems like HAs, migraines, fatigue and even high blood pressure which often respond very favorably to Chiropractic care.

How should I prepare for my chiropractic appointment? It is best to be well rested and as relaxed as possible, and wearing comfortable and flexible clothing. After your first appointment you should ideally be able to relax in a comfortable setting for a couple of hours. Avoid wearing bulky jewelry.

Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?Chiropractic is covered by most insurance carriers, but individual plans can vary significantly as to the amount of coverage available.

What can I expect during a chiropractic session?During the initial Exam and Consultation, you can expect a comprehensive health history to be taken, followed by a discussion and physical examination of your presenting complaints and concerns. The Chiropractor will then explain his findings and diagnosis and plus an explanation and description of what he proposes for treatment, and will ask if you have any concerns or questions pertaining to his findings or his treatment protocols.

How often should I visit a chiropractor? This may depend on many potential factors including the severity and duration of your health issues. Treatment plans are all individual and some cases may require multiple visits per week initially, while others might require a lower frequency of visits to resolve your problems. Chiropractic has always stressed that prevention is the key to staying well, and has encouraged ongoing preventative maintenance with periodic Chiropractic maintenance adjustments to maintain the benefits gained, and to keep the body operating at its best level of function, because spinal misalignments will always have a strong tendency to slip back towards their default misalignment patterns.

Are chiropractic treatments safe for children?Chiropractic adjustments are highly indicated for children as they are safe and highly effective. Non-medical health problems can begin early in life from even small falls and jolts to a tiny infant's frame, which are all too often wrongly overlooked as inconsequential but the accumulative effects of these mini traumas may be responsible for a variety of health issues surfacing later on. Young children usually respond extremely quickly to chiropractic treatment for the simple reason that their spinal misalignments have only been present for a relatively short time, and thus when returning vertebrae to proper alignment, they tend to stay put in their natural position. By the age of 5 yrs old the average child has had 2000 falls, 200 of which are significant, and none of which are likely to have been registered as injuries. The head and neck relationship is the major area for concern, given that the head is about 400x heavier than the small bone that it rest on at the top of the neck, so even a relatively minor whipping of the head, or jamming of the neck in a fall from a couch for example, could be the start of problems to surface years down the road. We recommend that all children be checked early so that any spinal alignment problems can be detected and corrected before serious symptoms develop.

Can chiropractic care help with sports injuries?Every athlete from primary school to the professional level, would benefit immensely from being under Chiropractic care to facilitate the fastest recovery from injuries and to prevent the vulnerability to future injuries. My three sons are the perfect example, they have all represented Canada on the sports field at the National and professional levels, two in rugby and one played baseball for Canada and pitched in the Major Leagues. They all credit their access to consistent Chiropractic care as a big factor in remaining injury free and for being able to compete at the highest level. John Stockton, retired NBA basketball star, when asked what his secret was to be able to play in NBA for 20 seasons while only missing a handful of games, replied, "A good Chiropractor." Tiger Woods is also on record as saying that "Chiropractic maintenance was just as important to him as his swing coach."

What makes my chiropractic practice unique?IMO, the most important factor in choosing a Chiropractor is experience. Anyone who has extensive experience at any profession or trade, whether it be cooking or carpentry, will agree that the more time that you spend performing a set of skills, the better you are likely to become. As a veteran, experienced Chiropractor, licensed in four countries and three Provinces and with over 40 years in clinical practice, it is likely that I have successfully treated hundreds if not thousands of patients with problems similar to yours, so I am confident that I will be able to provide the best level of Chiropractic care for your specific needs. I am also available for emergencies outside of office hours, should the need arise.
